Port Vale manager Micky Adams hailed the second-half display from his defence following a 1-0 opening day win over Bury. One of the back four, left-back Lee Collins, sealed the victory with a rare goal in the 66th minute from a Gary Roberts corner. It was an impressive team performance from Vale and Adams also reserved praise for strike-pairing Justin and Marc Richards. "I thought the key was our back-four, particularly in the second half," said Adams. "They all performed very well and they needed to because Bury have players that can hurt you. "This is always a difficult place to play so we're delighted with the effort and commitment the players showed. They were bang on it. "As a manager you're never happy. I felt that when we went 1-0 up we went a bit negative. We stopped making runs beyond the ball and there were too many sideways passes but I think in general we deserved the win."
