Mark Robins earns first victory since returning to Coventry

Mark Robins claimed his first win in his second spell as Coventry manager with a 2-1 victory over Port Vale.

City are all-but doomed to League Two next season but they produced two moments of real quality to finally give Robins a win in his fourth game in charge.

Kyel Reid and Kwame Thomas scored in the space of four first-half minutes before Nathan Smith pulled one back for the visitors.

Vale failed to register a shot on target in the opening period and while City were far from fluent, they looked the most likely to break the deadlock.

And in the 37th minute Reid picked up a bouncing ball 30-yards from goal, flicked it over the head of a Vale defender and unleashed an unstoppable shot past Deniz Mehmet.

It got even better for the home side in the 41st minute when Stuart Beavon's shot parried by Mehmet only for Kwame Thomas to back-heel home from six yards.

Vale gave themselves a lifeline in the 74th minute when Smith headed in Ryan Taylor's free-kick but the Sky Blues held on, leaving them 14 points from safety with seven games left.
