Foyle Delighted With Clinical Lowndes

The Vale striker bagged a brace inside the first half-hour at Roots Hall but Foyle refused to single out one player after the opening day success, preferring instead to praise the whole team.

"He grabbed his goals superbly, however, this victory came about through everyone playing his part," Foyle said after the 2-1 win against the League One new boys.

"We could easy have had another goal or two in the first half but we were forced to defend a great deal after the break as Southend came at us.

"We didn't make things easier for ourselves with the quality of our passing, which was poor at times, but full marks for the way we handled what Southend threw at us."
