Fraser takes armband

Tommy Fraser is ready to adapt his game after being appointed Port Vale skipper for a second successive season. Fraser, who joined the club from Brighton last summer, is also hoping to be fully fit in time for the new campaign as he continues his recovery from a niggling ankle injury. "Looking back, there are numerous things I would change about some of the decisions I made as captain," he told The Sentinel. "I feel I need to be more mature both on and off the pitch, but I knew it was a learning curve for me when I was offered the armband, and that's how I looked at it. "I'm only 22, so to be named captain of Port Vale is a big honour for me, but I intend to give it my best shot." On his ankle problem, he added: "The ankle feels better now and my focus is on making sure I am fit for the start of the new season." Vale will begin their pre-season schedule with games at Harborough Town (July 10) and Biddulph Town (July 11). Games against Nantwich (July 13) and Newcastle Town (July 17) await before the club face a trip to Ireland and games against Althone and Galway.
