Port Vale V Shrewsbury at Vale Park - Match Preview

Loft set for Vale return

Captain Doug Loft could be fit to return to the Port Vale side against Shrewsbury.

Loft was left out of the team which won 4-0 at Shortwood United in the FA Cup after sustaining a calf injury and his return would present manager Micky Adams with a selection poser. Vale started the previous three league games with both Loft and Louis Dodds playing out wide but Jennison Myrie-Williams and Chris Birchall impressed on Monday night.

Dodds required 12 stitches above his eye after an accidental collision in training last week but confirmed his fitness with a substitute appearance at Shortwood.

Dan Jones is out of the game because of a foot problem. The injury means Adams is almost certain to name an unchanged back four.

Liam McAlinden returns to contention for Shrewsbury while new loan signing Gozie Ugwu could make his debut.

On-loan McAlinden was denied permission by parent club Wolves to feature in last weekend's hugely disappointing 3-0 FA Cup defeat at Walsall, while fellow striker Ugwu has been brought in on a deal from Reading until January.

Manager Graham Turner is demanding a response to Town's abject display at the Banks's Stadium and that could lead to changes, with the likes of McAlinden, Ugwu, Paul Parry, David McAllister and John Marsden pushing for starts.

Left-back Joe Jacobson remains sidelined with his hamstring injury as Shrews look to get back to winning ways.
