Port Vale boss Micky Adams has urged on-trial midfielder Gary Roberts to try and earn a contract with the club. The former Crewe man has recently been training with the League Two side and could take part in the club's pre-season trip to Ireland. "This is a chance for Gary to earn a contract and at the end of the Ireland trip we'll make a decision," Adams told The Sentinel. "The work he's done in training and in our pre-season games has been first-class. He's had a few demons in his life, but Gary can pick a pass so his decision-making is generally good." Elsewhere, Adams is still awaiting results as doctors continue to assess Lewis Haldane, who suffered blood poisoning following an insect bite on his ankle last week. Adams added: "Lewis had fluid drained from his ankle and that has gone to the hospital's laboratories to be analysed. We are still waiting for the results. "I'm not worried if Lewis misses the start the season - I just want him to be fit and healthy again."
