Vale took the lead in this game but it was Aldershot who was left ruing missed chances after the game against a Vale side that still have not won away from home in the league so far this season.
Vale took the lead in the 23rd minute when Kirk Hudson lost possession in midfield and Robert Taylor evaded two challenges before firing across the keeper and into the bottom corner of the net.
But by the 39th minute, Hudson made up for his mistake that lead to the Vale goal when he tucked the ball inside to Louis Soares, who drilled the ball into the bottom right corner to equalise.
After that both Marvin Morgan and Soares missed good chances to put the Shots ahead, but when the half time whistle came the scores were still level.
Vale lived dangerously after the restart, Hudson missed an open goal after Morgan squared the ball across goal. Then, McCombe cleared off the line from Morgan as the home side pushed for the winner.
Vale struggled to create clear cut chances, but sub Lewis Haldane claimed that defender Anthony Charles had brought him to the ground just outside the penalty area, the referee was having none of it though.
After the game, manager Micky Adams told Radio Stoke: "We looked average to say the least but we've ground an away point out and we'll take that.
"We're difficult to play against and for 35 minutes of the first half we dominated the play.
"You have to take your chances whoever you play against at any level or you will get punished."
