Martin Foyle would have been looking for a change in fortune for his Port Vale side over the Christmas period, but another home defeat against strugglers Blackpool only furthered their slide down the league.
After catching Blackpool in possession in the fourth minute, Tony Dinning was given the chance to shoot from 20 yards, but his effort dragged wide of Lee Jones' left post.
John Doolan was first to test Mark Goodlad in the 15th minute when he found himself in acres of space 25 yards out, but the goalkeeper got down quickly in his bottom right corner to save.
The Valiants would have felt hard done by when they had a goal disallowed in the 31st minute after Nathan Lowndes was adjudged to have impeded the goalkeeper once Craig James had put the ball in the net.
The visitors came out brighter after the break and almost capitalised on some slack marking when Keith Southern got the opportunity to shoot from the edge of the box, but his effort bobbled wide of Goodlad's left post.
The deadlock was broken in the 52nd minute when Keigan Parker's cross from the right provided Simon Wiles with a chance that he took comfortably, finishing into the bottom right corner.
A second followed two minutes later, but this time it was the provider who turned goalscorer when Parker lobbed a helpless Goodlad from 15 yards after a superb ball from Jason Wilcox.
In an action packed five minutes, on-loan Clayton Fortune pulled a goal back for his side when he turned and volleyed the ball into Jones' top right corner after Chris Birchall's free-kick wasn't cleared properly.
Vale were given the perfect opportunity to equalise in the 72nd minute when Tony Dinning's cross was met by Birchall, but the midfielder powered the ball straight at Jones allowing him to save.
The home side continued to push right until the death, but a combination of stubborn defending and poor finishing gifted Simon Grayson's men a festive three points.
