With almost nothing between mid-table and the play-offs Blackpool and Port Vale both wanted to boost their positions with three points in the rearranged fixture at Vale Park.
Vale went on the offensive right from the whistle and struck a vital blow early doors when Michael Cummins played a long through ball for Stephen Brooker, who held off Steve Davis and powered the ball into Lee Jones' left corner after eight minutes.
Blackpool's sluggish attitude only aided the Valiants' quick passing attacks and Stephen McPhee should have done better when Brooker provided a golden opportunity 15 yards from goal, but keeper Jones got down well to save.
A lack of urgency gifted the home side their second after 28 minutes with Mark Boyd whipping an a cross to the back post from the left where Mark Bridge-Wilkinson was waiting with a powerhouse drive into the net to grab only his second of the season.
Blackpool picked up the pace in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts in the 73rd minute when Kirk Hilton supplied substitute Mike Sheron in the heart of the box, allowing him to bury the ball past a helpless Jonathan Brain.
The Seasiders could have grabbed an equaliser late on with lively Martin Bullock cracking an effort from 25 yards over the bar, but even under pressure Vale 's steadfast defence managed to hold out until the end.
A pleased Brian Horton said: "I thought the first half was a good performance, but we never seemed to get out of the blocks in the second.
"That puts us sixth in the league now, which isn't bad, but we're missing players and had to put two 18-year-old lads on the bench again, but all in all credit to the lads."
